This dip had noticeable problems right off the bat. There was little juice and the bread was toasted and ultimately burnt. I was perplexed why they toasted it to begin with. A friend sent me a pic from his phone of a French Dip that he had at the Daily Grille on 25th and Broadway in Santa Monica a couple a weeks ago with bread that was not toasted. To the contraire, he said that it was very spongy and great for sopping up the juice. My only guess is that since it was the end of the day and they were closing up shop, the bread was not exactly fresh and they used the toasted bread tactic to mask it’s not so fresh feeling. Either that or they just fudged it up in the broiler. Any-who, toasted bread is not good for capturing meat juice, but burnt bread is even worse. It was a very unmemorable sandwich before I flew off into the night.
