Big Dean's is located at the base of the famous Santa Monica Peir. The establishment looks as if it is as old as the peir itself. The Bar and Grill claims that ‘it’s the burger that made Santa Monica famous.’ I never got to the bottom of that statement but I did get down with the Big Dean’s Cheese Burger. Double the meat, double the cheese and grilled onions makes for one fantastic burger! The only problem with the burger was its height to width ratio. Let’s just say it’s a tall burger and problematic like an SUV on a curvy road. The high center of gravity, melted cheese, and slick onions made it a tough burger to hold onto. I was having bun issues as well. While the top bun remained in tact, the only part of the bottom that was left was the little piece on the circumference of my thumb. A very good burger and a great deal considering prices are jacked up in and around the peir. Did Big Dean's burger make Santa Monica famous? I'm not really sure, but the burger is good and that is all that really counts.
